Today, it's a popular form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States, especially as a supportive therapy to help manage symptoms such as pain, sleep problems, and the negative effects of stress. In the 2007 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), massage was the fifth-most-used CAM therapy.
